Stagecoach announce new driver vacancies as part of Bus and Coach Driver Recruitment Week

  • Applications are open for driving roles across all depots in the UK
  • Recruitment events being held across the UK
  • Driver applications up by 32% since before the pandemic
  • 2,250 new drivers employed since May 2021

Stagecoach, the UK’s biggest bus and coach operator, is joining the industry as part of a national recruitment drive to raise awareness of the job opportunities available and the benefits of becoming a bus or coach driver.

As the industry marks national Bus and Coach Recruitment Week this week, Stagecoach is celebrating hiring 2,250 new drivers in the past nine months and is actively recruiting for more new drivers across all depots in the UK.

In a UK wide attempt to increase the number of drivers, operators are also coming together to hold recruitment open days and run social media campaigns to promote the driving jobs currently available in the industry. The aim is also to provide myth busting information on what it is like to be a driver in the industry.

Driver applications to Stagecoach are up by over 30% since before the pandemic with benefits of joining including free bus travel, good pensions, flexible hours, getting to meet new people and being out and about on the roads each day.

In February, as part of National Apprentice Week, Stagecoach announced it currently has its highest ever number of apprentices with over 1000 people going through its programme and it is looking to recruit more. Its commitment to training and development was highlighted further in the recently launched Sustainability Strategy which details its objective of having 40% females in leadership roles by 2026, and 25% of their workforce from ethnic minorities. Stagecoach's commitment also includes offering more work placements for 16-24 year olds.

Martin Griffiths, Stagecoach Chief Executive said: “It has never been a better time to join the industry as it is vital that we all play our part in helping the country to re-build from the pandemic. The Coach and Bus Driver recruitment week is helping to raise awareness that people can join the industry no matter their background, experience or age.

“We need to increase our pipeline of skilled and knowledgeable drivers right across the country, and we will do so by offering full time and part time roles available across the UK, with flexible hours along with training and development opportunities and free bus travel.

“I’m really proud of all our drivers and the service they provide and look forward to welcoming more talented individuals to our business in the coming months and years”.

Recruitment is also underway for over 60 customer service roles for the new service centre based at the company’s headquarters in Perth. The team at Stagecoach will be holding a recruitment open day on 24 February from 12.00 to 18.00 at Dunkeld Road and is encouraging people to attend the open day by applying by email to nadya@ccarecruitment.com.
