Supertram confirms new fares from 2 January 2023
- Cost of some tram tickets increasing from January, with discounts available on online and app tickets
- Steps taken to protect passengers with below inflation increases

Stagecoach Supertram has confirmed changes to some tram fares from 2 January 2023.
Supertram has taken steps to protect its passengers with below inflation increases, with the new ticket prices adding on average just 31p onto the cost of daily travel.
Discounts continue to be available for tickets bought online or on the app rather than on tram. Flexi-5 tickets also continue to be available (exclusively via the Stagecoach Bus app) to reflect changing travel patterns. These tickets offer five Tram Only DayRiders for the price of four which can be used on any day within a month. The price of child 7 and 28 days tickets has also been frozen.
For single journeys, the Mayor’s £2.00 flat fare promotion which applies to tram travel as well as to buses will remain in place until 31 March 2023. There will be no change to these fares until after the promotion ends.
Money from fares goes towards paying for the day-to-day running of services as well as investing in customer improvements. It also covers additional costs including paying government taxes which support public services.
Businesses across the UK economy, including in the transport sector, have been facing significantly increased costs. These are primarily driven by increased staffing costs and commodity costs which impact replacement part costs and have put pressure on fares.

“Businesses such as Stagecoach have been facing significantly increased costs which continue to put pressure on fares. We have worked hard to absorb as many of these costs as possible to keep fares increases below the level of inflation.
“The money from fares goes towards paying for the day-to-day running of services, as well as being re-invested into improvements for our customers to help make travel easier.”
